Kede Fm

Period:
Silurian

Age Interval:
Wenlock of Silurian (S1), (35)

Province:
Xizang (Tibet)

Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Lin Baoyu and Qiu Hongrong in 1983. The type section is located at the southwest slope, approximately 1 km southeast of Kede Village, Pazhuo District, Dingri County, Xizang Zizhiqu. Xia Daixiang et al. (1997) correlated this formation with the upper part of Pulu Formation and considered this formation name as an invalid name. We retain this formation herein tentatively for further investigation.

Synonym: (可德组)

Lithology and Thickness

It consists of interbeds of gray thick-bedded zebra limestone (which itself is intercalated with 2 m thick gray violet shale) alternating with medium-bedded limestone. It is 45 m in thickness and steady in lithology. The thickness of the formation changes so considerably, as 60 km eastwards apart at Gongbaqiang in Dingri County it gets down to merely 24 m thick.
